HEART – Praise & Worship.
Praise and Worship, the Heart of Music.
Out of our love and adoration for our God comes Praise and Worship, which wells up from the heart, which in turn gives expression through music, whether in song or with instruments.
Hello, and welcome, I am Michael Thompson, and it is my desire to provide you with a one-stop resource that will enable, inspire, empower you with your own passion to Worship and Praise.
A tall order from someone who is totally musically challenged. By that, what I mean is, is that I cannot play an instrument or sing; although I did play the Bagpipes as a teenager; so whether that qualifies me in any way I will leave up to you. I guess I can read music, but that is a long way from actually understanding it. But there is no doubt as to my love of music, be that Gregorian Chant, Irish or Scots folk music, to Classical and every other type or form in between. But not all music can be said to be in any way to be regarded as ‘God inspired’. Yet in spite of that lack of talent, God still loves to hear me praise Him, and as I am in the Spirit I am always in tune.
So Praise and Worship has two components – the Performer, and the praise and worshiper. Both come before the Throne of God, in humbleness and adoration.
Since music is such a broad subject, and it touches people in so many different ways and on so many levels, it will not be my intention restrict the subject to a purest level, but rather a gathering together of sounds, styles etc. so that we can all learn from each other.
For instance I have just heard this song composed by Gordon Lightfoot, sung by Gregorian.
This is neither strictly “Gregorian Chant”, as in praise to God specifically, nor what we generally think of when we think of Gordon Lightfoot, or the song title, YET, here is praise in God’s creation. Creation of a woman for man, creation of the Church as Bride for Christ.
I have to admit that of all the music style that I prefer would have to be Irish. But then to combine that with worship and praise as does Robin Mark, just sends me in raptures.
Whatever your interest in music, be it playing an instrument, singing or arrangements for a choir, the range of options today can be overwhelming. Granted you probably know what it is you yourself like to play etc, but are you open to broadening your abilities, to expand your God given talents.
A quote from Dr. Robert Greenberg, Music Historian, says “Music allows us to transcend our own world and partake in utterly different realities”. Isn’t that what we should expect from praise and worship – to be caught up in the heavenlies with God and experience His wonders.
So whatever your passion is, be it for music, praise and worship, playing, singing, look around and come back often as the site will be continually updated and added to.
